STOCKHOLM, I DO.

If you're looking for relaxed down to earth people that live, work and play in a city that is a delight to paste your eyes on, type in Stockhom into the destination field of your next trip. The old city resembles the streets of the Marais in Paris, the city centre lined with boutiques, bars and about 100 H&M's reminds you of London or New York, and the people remind you of your good friends. Make sure you have a warm jacket, a thick coat, cashmere scarf and your feet are lined with 3-4 pairs of socks, it's freezing in the winter, and the sun during this period is known to be quite selfish, showing up late and leaving early. Here are a few pictures from my stroll around.

Outside of Sture Shopping Centre

Even the Guards outside the King's Palace are pretty relaxed.

SLEEPING IN SINGAPORE

Posted in DESTINATIONS

Best way to cope with Singapore’s 1000% humidity is to check yourself straight into a well equipped hotel. Thanks to our friends at Kiwicollection we found the Wanderlust Hotel.

When you step into this delight tucked away in Little India you start experiencing the Alice in Wonderlandesque visuals that must have flickered through the architects mind as they sipped on their mushroom shake.

The staff are lovely, you feel like you are the first person entering into their abode. I was greeted by about five people with big grins slapped onto their faces, which made checking in into a relaxing experience. When i entered my room i was confronted by loud bright white floral cutouts on the walls, a delicious bed with 4 fluffed pillows and a perfectly positioned 42″ LCD sreen. There is also ipod dock, a Nespresso machine and a shower head the size of a dinner plate. Another thumbs up was the complimentary mini bar and early check-in.  Overall it was exactly what i wanted after a 12 hour flight.

SOMEWHERE IN CENTRAL TURKEY

Posted in DESTINATIONS

No It’s not Baghdad Welcome to Nigde. From the moment you start breathing in this remote Turkish town you realize that the natural gas pipes took a detour, the extensive burning of charcoal has really put it on the map, it looks like a blur.

Once you’ve been here for a day you become accustomed to atmosphere, and cannot wait to get hungry again. The food is sensational, reminiscent of an episode of Anthony Bourdain, you search for your waiter, look for the guy with a crisp white shirt and a tie (our one was called Ramzi a political refugee from Azerbaijan). Feast on fresh fruit, vegetables and meats that come from orchards & farms that blossom soon as you drive out of the town into the bare landscape that has been agriculturally preserved since Adam cheated on Eve with a snake in the garden of Eden in Mesopotamia (northern iraq) a few hundred kilometers from here.  Every Thursday you can find the Farmers direct markets by the gates of the City castle, a kilo of oranges will set you back 1 lira/70 cents.

DON’T FORGET YOUR MOCCASINS….

Posted in DESTINATIONS

I did… Along with my Audi R8, Sun Seeker power boat and stupidly, I flew Easy Jet rather than hitch a ride with Fabio the hedge fund manager in his Gulfstream.

Welcome to Costa Smerelda – the Italian paradise for the rich and famous on the beautiful isle of Sardinia – west of the mainland.

The only thing I knew about Sardinia was it being a land famous for artichokes. They go for a cool €60 per gram.

I’m embellishing, slightly, but you get the picture… Somehow though, this unbelievably manicured, serene and magnificent place could render such a tariff; and the Italians who spend their summer here wouldn’t sneeze at it.

The Italians do it so well… Ostentatious yes, but with a manner of style you cannot help be impressed by. Porto vilaggios laden with Valentino and Miu Miu boutiques, impeccably parted parfaits, elegante’ poodles spruced to perfection presented by persons with proud pouts and pastel pink pantelones.

What made it fabulous though, besides the epic scenery and 200+ white sand beaches with crystal clear water, are these people I describe.  Even with matching his & hers Ralph Lauren Polos (large horse embroidery), there is that unmistakably warm, Italian family charm you’re greeted with despite the clear cultural divide.

Sardinia, especially the romantic Porto Rotondo and Porto Cervo, is a place of pure beauty. Somewhere that despite the over-the-top indulgence of it all, is where you want to be w with that person you love, having an ammaretto flavoured gelato as the sun sets over the marina full of yachts with a combined value of over 600 billion euros.

FOR RENT | CAPPADOCIA, TURKEY

Posted in DESTINATIONS

Once home to Priests and Monks and Rulers of the world, the area called Cappadocia by Nevsehir in Central Turkey comprises of upside down ice-cream cone like pumice stone structures that were hollowed out to make premium realestate from far back as 6th century BC. Due to the amazing architecture this was a very hip place to live like Sydney’s Bondi Beach, or New York’s Williamsburg, so naturally there has been many conflicts in the region over tenancy agreements.

For example:  After bringing the Persian Empire to an end, Alexander the Great tried to rule the area through one of his military commanders. But Ariarathes, a Persian aristocrat, somehow became king of the Cappadocians.  Always make sure you read the fine print on your lease!

The Pumice stone structures have built in robes, beds, stables and some even have en-suites.  there is no need for air-conditioning as the caves are a cool escape from the scorching heat of central Turkey.  So take a break from modern day life and get your own cave today.  Here are some pics of some available properties this week.

EATING ON THE EAST SIDE OF NEW YORK, EVEN IF YOU DON’T HAVE AN INCOME….

Posted in DESTINATIONS

Yes, we are going to do this. a very controversial blog where we will be highlighting 4 spots to eat on the east Side of New York. There must be 100′s of great places that should be in our 4 picks, but they didn’t make it. Here we go in no particular order.

mogador

Cafe Mogador: This place has the BEST breakfast, its a Moroccan joint(no pun intended) and we cant go past the middle eastern eggs. Healthy dose of the best hummus you ever had, tabuli, salsa, eggs any way(they do the best pouched egg i ever had) and rye or pita. Bill is never over $30 (for 2)  the chilli paste is a must! - East Village, 101 Saint Marks Place, inbetween 1st and A.

lasso

L’asso Pizza: Although this isn’t your typical New York  SLICE, this is some quality pizza! They offer thin base pizzas with toppings that will make you drool all over yourself, such as the mela- gorgonzolla, truffle oil and sliced apple. The staff are friendly and they have watermelon beer. Once again pretty cheap and they have lovely salads too. Look out for one of the waiters who’s favorite color is fluro anything, and our mate little Davie in the back corner who’s known to visit it 3 times a day - NOLITA-192 Mott Street, between Delancey and spring st

tmeatballshop

The Meatball shop:  This place is ALWAYS PACKED! They make meatballs and they’re F*cking great.  get there at 6:00 put your name down and come back in 2-3 hours for your table. they are open until around 3-4am so it’s all good. Its worth it, meatballs are served over anything you like, pasta, rice, polenta, mash and so on… for  $11 dollars! Peroni is running on tap and you can satisfy your sweet tooth with their Ice cream sandwiches. Great spot for a cheap date or even to take someone that you actually like - Lower east side-84 Stanton Street- in between Allen and Ludlow

df090112sashimi

Mays Place: May, May, May.. I think she must have been in my Marketing class at University, sitting in the front row, because she has nailed it. Does 1/2 price sushi & Sashimi sound good? well these guys do it everyday, and the quality it better than alot of the upper class wanky spots i have been to.  You can get the dragon boat Sushi and Sashimi platter for $32 ($64 on the 1/2 price menu)  it come with 28 pieces of sashimi, 15 or so pieces of sushi and some amazing rolls (more than enough for 3). To wash it down they have Kirin on tap for $2 before 8pm most days, and if those casting are still not paying off they also have a $1 menu - East Village – 121 2nd Avenue, between 7th and 8th.

A BOHEMIAN BUBBLE…

Posted in DESTINATIONS

… deep in central Europe, we find ourselves warmly welcome in Berlin.

Much of the city (as you of course know) endured communist rule and thus took a backseat to the progression and standard development most of Western Europe was “blessed” (or corrupted) with.

The first thought on arrival was the feeling of being in a time warp – but into a place somewhere truly genuine, somewhere with real inherent character and style.  Weirdly, it almost felt like the 70s or 80s…  or even 90s, it’s hard to define.  But nevertheless retro  – and f**king cool.

Venturing to Panorama Bar on the top floor of the brutalist institution, Berghain’s (pictured below), is a must – even if just for a minute given what goes on inside is a little much!! (I can’t help say that with a smile though). I’d like to say a quick visit is understandable, but in reality, the mirrorless,  camera-free and timeless relic will draw you in for a lot longer than you can keep account of…  From there, and I mean directly from there,  go relax at the organic village that is Bar 25 and simply watch some of coolest mother f**kers in the world mingle peacefully.

Berlin is unique, individual, underground, progressive – but most impressively has a sense of how life should be…

There are not too many places left to be Found quite like this one.

ISTANBUL - 1 CITY 2 CONTINENTS 3 SYLLABLES, 4 THINGS TO DO & EAT

Posted in DESTINATIONS

As the gateway to Europe and Asia, Istanbul has stood as the capital city of the Roman Empire, Latin Empire and the Ottoman Empire. Even with a quick glimpse of the biggest city in Europe you will still see the functional uses of structures that were erected 1000′s of years ago.

This year Istanbul is the European Culture Capital, so along with The Grand Bazzaar (biggest shopping center int the world) and Mimar Sinan’s structures (the head Ottoman architect), you can find some of the worlds best jazz musician’s, opera singers and artists performing and featuring in Istanbul.

istanbul2

Here are Found’s 4 things to do & eat:

1. Take a seat at Rumeli Hisari (an open air theater protected by fortress walls) and see a play or an opera, then take a stroll to Kurucesme Balik (seafood restaurant) take a seat on the terrace, order a selection of hot ad cold mezze’s and wash it down with a bottle of Raki.

2. Put on your bargaining gloves and enter the Grand Bazzaar. You will feel like a celebrity with every sales man trying to get your attention (below are pictures of a few to look out for). Make sure you find the Antique Market. When you need to take a break and re-energize, Go to the Tarihi Sultanahmet Köftecisi,(The Historical Sultanahmet meatball shop)  arguably the best meatballs in Istanbul, you can pick from 1 or 1 1/2 portions we recommend you wash it down with and Ayran (a watery yogurt drink). Watch out for the copies such as ‘The Famous Sultanahmet Koftecisi’, and if you’re a vegetrian, they also do an amazing lentil soup.

3. Jump on board a ferry and cross the Bosphorus, we recommended to go from Besiktas (europe) to Kadikoy (asia) then back to Karakoy (europe). When you get off at Karakoy grab a fish sandwhich, you will see the boats on the water cooking it up and just for 4 lira( USD$3) this might be one of the best fish fillet sandwiches you have had. After your meal walk into Eminonu square, take your shoes off and step into the Süleymaniye Mosque, one of Mimar Sinan’s creation’s (1537).

4. Just after the sun goes down stroll down to Asmalimescit from Taksim Square, explore the little allies filled with people eating, drinking and dancing to traditional Turkish music. Look out for men with trays of Midye dolma (Muscle Dolma) and try this amazing delicacy. Afterwards pop in to OTTO bar for a hazelnut shot with some trendy local dj’s or go to Nupera bar for some cocktails overlooking the Bosphorus.
